Bog Oak Bracelets are from 2000 year old wood logs from European river beds. Bog Oak is the most expensive wood in the world as the process to bring the material to market is so costly. Oak tree are typically the species that have been buried under riverbeds for thousands of years. Deprived of oxygen the wood does not deteriorate. It does absorb minerals and turns black in color becoming very hard and heavy. These logs are found by the use of sonar. They often carbon date back 5000 years. Think that these trees were growing when Egyptians were building the Pyramids, Jesus was in Bethlehem and the Roman Empire was at its peak.
Bog Oak Material
An importer of Bog Oak slabs requested that I test the product for turning potential. It is already a successful product for furniture making. I discovered that the material is difficult to fabricate. It is not solid and there are voids through out the wood. When turning a bowl a large crack would appear and the bowl would fall apart. Bog Oak material Is excellent for jewelry because it has beautiful texture, but questionable use for turning large items.
