Sunset Wood Pendant

Sunset Wood Pendant is Maple burl that is turned on a wood lathe and enhanced with red dye and a brass fill. The assembly also has three metal beads. The leather cord is fully adjustable for the most comfortable position.  By tugging on the two ends the pendant adjusts to the most comfortable length.

This wood necklace represents my initial designs when I began exploring wooden jewelry.  When we would travel my wife would stop in every bead store and I hated every minute of it.  Now, I lead the way into the bead store.  I also have an extensive library of jewelry supply catalogs. Junk mail for Bead Shows is addressed to me.  All of this is so embarrassing.

Initially, making pendants I went to bangles and earrings. I use a variety of materials that include color pencils, acorns, seed pods, cinnamon sticks and resin to make these designs..

This pendant style is a great conversation pieces and will gain attention with any outfit.

Studio

These pendants as with all my jewelry is handmade by me in my studio in Montvale, NJ USA. My primary machine is the wood lathe.  This allows me to make the form and determine the look of the final product.  It seems strange that a machine that can turn a two hundred pound log down to a fifteen pound stool is also accurate for making jewelry that weighs a few ounces.  In order to complete the piece it goes to the workbench where I spend time enhancing the product.
