Tadpoles and Not Sperm
Wood Tadpole Egg Vase. Every turner enjoys making eggs. These tadpoles are drawn onto the wood with a pyrography tool which is a wood burner. It looks like a soldering iron and the red hot tip brands the wood. These are tadpole. Not what you think. They have legs. The size is 5.5 inches tall with a 3 inch diameter at the widest point.
Hollow Forms
The style of this Wood Tadpole Egg Vase is a Hollow Form. The artist makes a small entry hole and removes the interior wood with special tools. The tools have hooks and the maker completes the cutting process not being able to view the wood removal. This takes lots of practice to develop this skill set.
Pyrography
Pyrography which is branding wood with a red hot wire. An artist bends a wire to form the desired image and attaches two leads to a power source. Flip a switch and the wires become red hot and ready to brand the wood.
Remember the Boy or Girl Scout experience using that soldering iron thing. That tool was so frustrating as it never got hot enough. Today with professional tools wood artists do realistic illustrations.

Studio
My studio is in Montvale, New Jersey, USA. My primary machine is the wood lathe. With this tool I will turn the form. Once I am satisfied with the shape I will take it to the studio bench where I will enhance the Maple Hollow Form Bowls. Process may include a variety of techniques which may include pyrography, carving, piercing and finishing.
