Description
My friend, Dennis Fuge, is a wonderful artist who uses various techniques to embellish his work. I found a large log on the road to try some of his techniques and name the project Fuge Wood Sculpture. After wire brushing and torching the form, a mouth opened directly under the grain eyes. This is not what I expected, but offered an option to create a more interesting piece. This is what I refer to as a design opportunity. Meet Fuge, a distant cousin to ET.
Design Opportunity
Design opportunities are some of the most fun and rewarding projects to work on. Initially I am on a path developing a project and then a flaw appears in the wood. This becomes a challenge to find a solution for this surprise. I was not expecting a crack and certainly didn’t expect it to look like a mouth under two eyes. After finishing the base I search for a solution for the lid. I find some shaggy fabric in a craft store and the hair piece completes this whimsical item.
Here is another piece with a whimsical attitude.
Gifts
If you are looking for a special gift like Fuge Wood Sculpture for friend or family member and do not see something of interest in my web store take a look at my Etsy shop. When you purchase an item from one of my stores or a gallery, you have the guarantee that you are receiving an original piece.
Studio
I design and produce all of my items in my studio in Montvale, New Jersey, USA. My time is split between making a shape on the lathe and refining the piece at the workbench. I will use a variety of techniques to decorate an item. This may include pyrography which is a branding method, carving, piercing, airbrushing and applying a protective finish.
