Colorful Wood Spinning Tops are always fun to make and by adding color and texture each piece is unique.
Wood Spinning Tops For All Ages
No one can resist Colorful Wood Spinning Tops? Tops appeal to every age probably because at some point in our childhood we had one or we wanted one. I make wood tops during transition periods between projects when I need a rest. This does not mean that making a top is totally stress free. Not every top will work and some work much better than others. It probably has to do with physics or the density of the wood. Maybe the diameter is too wide or the spindle is too long or too short. And sometimes the wood is crappy.
I like to turn multiple tops at a time. Then I test their ability to spin. The fun part is decorating them. There are ton of options and I use this time decorating to experiment with techniques that I will use on future projects. I use pyrography to brand marks into the wood. I paint with acrylics, stains, leather dye or milk paint to name a few. Each top becomes a unique one of a kind piece. Often I gift them to kids who visit our home or my office. I have made them for a club and we raised money for a children’s hospital.

Studio
I design all my products in my studio in Montvale, New Jersey USA. My main tool is the Robust wood lathe. The tool has the power to turn a two hundred pound log down to a twenty pound furniture stool. I also make jewelry and these spinning tops on the same machine.
