Banksia Seed Pods
Handmade Banksia Candle Sticks made from the Banksia Seed which is unique to Australia. After flowering the plant forms an enormous Seed Pod. It is the size of a large cucumber and similar in shape to a giant USA pinecone. The oval holes are where the seeds are dispersed from the Pod. These Pods are wonderful for making unique items. This pair of candlesticks feature Birdseye maple caps and bases which offer a contrasting color and stability for the pieces.

Studio
I design and produce all items on this website in my studio in Montvale, NJ USA. My primary tool is the Robust wood lathe. Considered one of the best machines it allows me to turn a 200 hundred pound log into a 20 pound stool. It is also accurate to produce small pieces like these candlesticks. Once the form is complete it requires a great deal of time to properly finish the item.
Care for Banksia Wood
Keep out of direct sunlight and minimize exposure to wide swings in humidity levels
Do not wash with water, if necessary use only a damp cloth
Wax lightly with a quality food safe wax or oil and buff to restore the luster. I like beeswax, walnut oil or mineral oil.
