Thistle Resin Brooch
Thistle Resin Brooch features a Thistle seed pod that floats in a blue tint resin.  A lot of my art derives inspiration from Mother Nature.  I have produced many pieces that feature plant life, trees, seed pods and leaves.  Another place for inspiration is the ocean and I have a series on sea urchins and starfish. Other plant and seed pods that I cast into jewelry are acorns, pine cones, cinnamon sticks and anise star spices.  It is amazing to watch these common natural objects transform into unique geometric organic forms.
The process to make this pin involves casting a thistle seed into a block of blue epoxy resin. The block is then mounted on a lathe and I turn the casting into a cylinder.  The diameter will fit the 2-inch diameter silver-tone brooch pin.   Next I dome the pin with a clear resin to enhance the color while providing exceptional protection. Ever worry that another woman will be wearing the same jewelry?  Will not happen with this pin. You will not see this anywhere else unless it is a copy of my jewelry.
Will be fun to have your friends guess what is in the brooch.   I have yet to have someone identify this abstract cast object even as a plant form.
