Set of Oak Burl Platters
This is a beautiful set of oak Burl dishes that will have many uses.  The grain patterns of the oak Burl are extraordinarily.  You will constantly be discovering new textures.   They are food safe for nuts and candies.  The size is 5 inch diameter by 1/2 inches high. 
The technique to fabricate a platter or a bowl is almost identical.  A dish or a platter is essentially a shallow or flat bowl.  A woodblock spins on a wood lathe at a high speed and a sharp tool peels away layers of wood.  Once the shape is complete more time is spent with finishing which is sanding to make the piece come to life and have that tactile feel that makes it unique.
The final steps of sanding, buffing, polishing and applying a food-safe protective coating is to make each piece unique and special.   This offers a high degree of protection and will provide years of enjoyment.

Care For Your Wood Products
This platter will require little maintenance.  It is best to keep it out of direct sunlight.  Minimize exposure to wide swings in humidity levels.  Do not wash with water,  if necessary use a damp cloth. And finally wax lightly with a quality food safe wax or oil and buff to restore luster.  Beeswax, olive oil or mineral oil work fine.
