Norfolk Island Pine Plate

This extraordinary piece of wood is from the Norfolk Island Pine tree. The NIP tree is unique in that the branches grow concentrically and not randomly as most other trees. In the USA, the tree is native to Florida and Hawaii.  This Norfolk Island Pine Plate has beautiful grain markings and rich earth tone colors on this one of a kind plate.  There is a small hole from a branch knot which I refer to as an organic feature.

This is the only wood  that I am aware of that can be treated to exhibit a translucent finish.  It is achieved by soaking the plate in boiled linseed oil. This is a long and tedious process that can take many weeks. When held up to a light some of the edges will appear translucent. The wood actually takes on a tortoise shell look.  The size is 6 inch diameter and 1/2 inches tall and is food safe.  Signed by the artist  Alan Adler.

This Norfolk Island Pine Vase Face will be perfect in your home as a Display Piece or Key Holder or Jewelry Keeper. Great as a jewelry holder on a nightstand.  If you like this item check out other NIP items Norfolk Island Jewelry Holder.

True Story

I was in an Art gallery in 2008 and on display was a Norfolk Island Bowl. The artist was a well know woodturner. The cost was $3000. I was totally taken by it and even considered how I could pay for it. I decided that for $3000 it could possible to learn the craft, buy the equipment, and attempt to make something like this…  and so here we are.  Maybe you should buy it now before I become famous and raise my price.
