Norfolk Island Pine Vase Face
This is an extraordinary piece of wood from the Norfolk Island Pine tree. The Norfolk Island Pine tree is unique in that the branches grow concentrically and not randomly as most other trees. This  Norfolk Island Pine Vase with an image of a face seems to be staring at us with 2 of the 7 red dots where the branches grew forming eyes.  The wood has beautiful grain markings and rich earth tone colors.
The translucent finish is achieved by soaking the form in boiled linseed oil. This is a long and tedious process that can take 2-8 weeks. When held up to the light some of the edges will appear to be translucent. The wood actually takes on a tortoiseshell look.  The size is 5-inch diameter and 6 inches tall.

True Story
I was in an Art gallery in 2008 and on display was a Norfolk Island Bowl similar to this. It was by a well know woodturner from Hawaii.  The cost was $3000. I was totally taken by it and even considered asking the gallery director for a payout program. I decided for $3000 it is possible to learn the process and buy the equipment… and so here we are. Maybe you should buy it now before I become famous and raise the price.

Keep out of direct sunlight
Minimize exposure to wide swings in humidity levels
Do not wash with water, if necessary use only a damp cloth
Wax lightly with a quality food safe wax or oil and buff to restore luster
