NIP Norfolk Island Vase

This is an extraordinary piece of wood from the Norfolk Island Pine tree. The Norfolk Island Pine tree is unique in that the branches grow concentrically and not randomly as most other trees. This NIP Norfolk Island Vase has several faces staring at us with 2 of the 6 red dots where the branches grew forming eyes.  The wood has beautiful grain markings and rich earth tone colors. If you are an art collector this piece will look great in your collection.  If you want to start your art collection this is a great starting point.

The translucent finish is achieved by soaking the form in boiled linseed oil. This is a long and tedious process that can take several weeks to months. When held up to the light some of the edges will appear to be translucent. The wood takes on a tortoiseshell look.  The size is 8-inch in diameter and 7 inches tall.

This food-safe bowl is perfect as a Display Piece or Key Holder or Cell Phone Holder.
Signed by me the artist, Alan Adler.

True Story

I was in an Art gallery in 2008 and on display was a Norfolk Island Bowl similar to this. It was by a well know woodturner, Ron Kent. The cost was $3000. I was totally taken by it and even considered how I would pay for it. I decided for $3000 it could possible to learn the craft and buy the equipment… and so here we are. Maybe you should buy this piece now before I become famous and raise my prices.

Care for your Vase

  • Wax lightly with a quality food safe wax or oil and buff to restore luster
