Basket Illusion Vase with Bone Lid
Basket Illusion Vase with Bone Lid is created on the lathe by forming beads and then coloring them accordingly. This is a wood vessel with a hollow interior. The woodturning style is known as a Hollow Form. I use special tools to cut away the interior wood. It takes practice to develop this skill set as the removal of the wood is not visible to the maker like it is with turning a bowl.
The decoration is inspired by Native American basket weaving. I turn concentric rings on the vessel and then divide the rings into many sections. Each section is then hand colored with archival india ink to develop a pattern which takes hours to complete. A protective finish is then applied to the piece. The overall size is 4 inches tall x 6 1/2 inch diameter at the top.
If you want to use this piece as a Pet Urn it is suitable for a cat or small dog. Seal the lid with silicone caulking. This is the same product used to seal around a window or bathtub. I recommend clear adhesive available in a tube.
This is a great collector item. If you are looking for a special gift and do not find someting in my website store take a look at my Esty Shop.
