Billiard Ball Gift Idea

These regulation size Billiard Balls make very cute small clocks.  The Billiard Ball Gift Clock numbers run from 1 to 15 with a white cue ball which has no number.  Pick your favorite number. How about a Birthday Gift or an Anniversary gift?  A Lucky Number?  I am sure you will get points when you give your partner “Number 10.”  The size is 2 1/4 inches in diameter.  Should you place an order for a Billiard Ball Gift Clock please advise the number you would like on your order form.

How I Made the Billiard Ball Clock

These are legitimate billiard pool balls that I cut a recess into on my wood lathe to accept a Seiko Quartz Clock.  I do not think it would be possible to accurately cut the recess without a lathe.  Imagine the fuss trying to use a drill and holding the ball steady at the same time.  There is a flat spot that I make on the bottom so the ball stays in place and it is where I sign my name, Alan Adler.  If you ever held a billiard ball you know how comfortably it fits in your hand.  There is something simple and elegant about the ball at the same time.  Maybe it also has to do with the weight.

Inspiration for the Billiard Ball Clock Idea

So you may be curious why I make these clocks.  Most of my website features wood products made on the lathe.  This is true, but I also combine different materials like wood and resin in my art.  I saw these billiard balls and I had a clock left over from a wood project so what the heck.  A billiard ball clock made to your favorite number as long as you don’t go over 15.  Here is the wood clock that inspired this project.  Bog Oak Desk Clock.  Here is a weird resin and acorn vase. Acorn and Pinecone Vase.  So there you go.  I am all over the place experimenting and making items with different products and materials..  Stay tuned for the Ball Ball Clock.

My Studio

I design and produce all my items in Montvale, New Jersey, USA.  My primary machine is the wood lathe.  After the form is complete it is necessary to take the piece to the workbench for finishing.
