Description
Ocean Blue Wave Bowl is a natural edge bowl that is 10 x 8 x 5. It is Ash and as such is absent of interesting grain and color. In order to make it more appealing I apply texture with a pyrography pen which is a wood branding technique and a blue dye stain. My signature, Alan Adler is on the base. There are many wood turners who believe artists should never paint wood. They are “Wood Purists” and I often get lip from them for altering wood. Their argument is ridiculous as wood has been painted for centuries. Wood is a canvas and it does grow on trees. What if there are “Canvas Purists?” That would make a fun trip to the museum to see walls of white canvas.

Studio
All items on this website are from my studio in New Jersey, USA. I divide my time between making a form on the lathe and then enhancing it at the studio bench. I may employ a variety of techniques to add interest to a piece. This may include carving, piercing, pyrography and stains.
