Junkyard French Horn

Junkyard French Horn

Junkyard French Horn is an abstract wood turning musical instrument in the form of a French Horn. The lathe helped me produce the initial form which looked like a long funnel. Then the fun began as I cut segments at various angles and reassembled them with twists and turns to create curves from previously straight parts. Some might call it Segment Turning. I would call it Freelance Turning as I was not sure how it was going to turn out or if the concept would work. This exploration of new ideas really excites me. This idea of an abstract Wood turning musical instrument then lead to another idea which is really fishy. https://www.aaturning.com/2019/10/06/a-little-fishy-for-woodturning/

The process for my exploration of the Junkyard French Horn began in a workshop that I took with Michael Hosulak. Michael is a master turner and artist that I have admired for many years. I have sat in on symposium classes for many years, but it was not until the fall of 2020 that I had the opportunity a participate in a hands on workshop. I refer to Michael as the Picasso of Wood Turning. He is a master turner who cuts up his pieces and then reassembles them into another form. Here is his website link: https://www.michaelhosaluk.com/

My studio is in Montvale, New Jersey, USA
