Collaboration With Nature
These Sea Urchin Holiday Ornaments feature real sea urchins. They are Sputnik Urchins with knobby bodies from Indonesia. The shell is the skeleton of a sea urchin which is an animal. Want to learn more about sea urchins?
Once I select the best looking sea urchin shells I fabricate wooden finials for the top and bottom. Sometimes, I use silk tassels for the bottom feature. A silk cord hanger helps attach the ornament to your Christmas tree.
It is neat to use creations from Mother Nature and work them into my art. I am always searching for common and unusual natural items. I also use acorns and pinecones in both jewelry and vases. Here is another piece inspired from Mother nature, an acorn and pinecone vase.
I began making jewelry in 2010 with wooden pendants turned on the lathe. Then I moved to bracelets and bangles and using color pencils cast in resin. These have become my signature pieces. Then came earring and incorporating objects from nature. These include Anise Stars, Cinnamon Sticks and Sweet Gum Seed pods cast in resin. The effects are remarkable and it is not easy to identify the item. Take a look at this handmade brooch.
If you are searching for a special gift there are many unique choices in my website store. Look on this website under Jewelry and Cool Stuff categories. Many additional items are available in my Etsy shop. Several galleries represent my art and the list is available in the About section.
I design and produce these Sea Urchin Holiday Ornaments in my New Jersey studio. I divide my time between forming the shapes on the wood lathe. Then I will spend time at the studio bench refining the product until I am satisfied with the result.
