Woodturning and Maple Burl
Tons of character in this Maple Burl Bowl between the hard wood and the new yellow sapwood. It does not get better than this. My artist signature is on base. What is Burl? When you see a round bump on a tree that is a burl. It is not a tumor or tree cancer. This is a defensive action the tree uses to protect itself after insect invasion or storm damage. Burl is highly sought after by wood workers because of the grain patterns that are exhibited on the finished piece.
Tired of searching for your keys and phone. A Maple Bowl like this is the perfect catch-all for a cell phone or jewelry. Drop them in when you get home or go to sleep. You just have to remember to put the items into the bowl and life will be easier.
Picture a beautiful handmade wood bowl similar to this one on your table. It is not often one finds wood with these gorgeous patterns. The wood species is Maple Burl with very unusual markings. This bowl is perfect for fruits, salads, candy or simply a display piece for the table.

My Studio and Workshop
I design all items in my studio in Montvale, New Jersey, USA. My primary tool is the wood lathe which I use to form the shape. Once I am satisfied with the shape I take the part to the workbench and use a variety of techniques to add value. These processes include pyrography, stain, paint, carving, airbrushing, sanding and applying a protective finish.
