Handmade Ambrosia Platter
Large Ambrosia Platter is handmade on a wood lathe. This is an ambrosia maple flat platter with gorgeous grain and incredible markings. The markings are from insect damage by the Ambrosia Beetle as he and his buddies infest the tree. As they eat through the tree fibers they leave behind these streaks. See the dots in the markings. These are the holes where the beetle enters and leaves the wood. They create their own art, but the tree will eventually die. All of my bowls and platters are signed on the bottom and they are also food safe.
Picture the gorgeous wood platter filled with apples and oranges as the centerpiece your table. This great home decor item has been sold by in a gallery. If you would like a similar item let me know. Take a look in my store under bowls and platters for available items.

All items on my website are handmade by me in my studio in Montvale, NJ USA. When you purchase from me I guarantee that you are getting an original piece. I do not sell any third party items. My primary tool is the wood lathe. I use this tool to create the form. Once it is complete I take it to the workbench for secondary operations. This may include pyrography, carving, painting, staining and airbrushing. When complete I apply a protective finish.
Care for Wood items
- Keep out of direct sunlight and minimize exposure to wide swings in humidity levels
- Do not wash with water, but if necessary use a damp cloth
- Wax lightly with a quality food safe wax or oil and buff to restore the luster. I like beeswax, walnut oil or mineral oil.
