Koi Fish Ring Holder is a wood turning and laser cut wooden platter. I turn a square block on the lathe creating the sloping edges on the underside of the bowl. The piece is laser etched with vintage Japanese drawing and then I paint by hand. There is a small recess hole in the center to hold a piece of fine jewelry. This is a great centerpiece or display piece.
Inspiration for this Koi Fish Ring Holder is from an historic Japanese drawings. I duplicate the vintage image on the wood. The size is approximately 7 inches by 7 inches by 2 inches high.
There are other interesting laser items in my portfolio. Many are early drawings from the US Patent office including patents of an early typewriter and machinery gears. There are also classic American Documents like The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution. The variety of items that can be created is wide open. I am not sure where the laser tool will take my work and and if there is a future in it for me. There are things that I like about the process like the crispness of the image. Then there are things that I do not like and that is the machining aspect which is cold and so removed from the interaction with hand tools.
There are additional items in my Etsy Shop. Take a look http://www.etsy.com/shop/AATurning
I design all the items on this website in my studio in Montvale, NJ USA.
