Skinny Jeans is the fourth piece in my zipper series. Here I am able to achieve the denim look and texture on wood. This Vase is a part of a series of vases that feature a zipper and other elements about fashion and female themes.
The idea for this series started with Pretty Woman. The idea came by finding a solution to a crack in the finished vase. Too pretty to be delegated to the firewood pile I would need to find a solution. Out of the blue I had the idea to place a zipper in the crack. Very happy with this accidental result I continued to develop the zipper concept with a series of feminine forms.
The Creative Process
It fascinates me how a solution appears out of nowhere. For me it usually happens late at night or upon awakening. Sometimes it takes days or weeks and sometimes months. A recent project resolved itself after several years. I could not figure out how to technically solve a problem. One day I woke up and the solution was clear in my head. I went to the studio and a few hours later I produced the piece that haunted me for years.
Skinny Jeans Vase is an wood art sculpture that involving techniques that include turning, texturing, carving and painting. I enjoy making a statement with my art. I believe that I have captured the fashion style of tight fitting jeans.
The other zipper theme items in this series are Pretty Woman, Twisted Sister a vase that captures the fashion and culture of Rock and Roll and Biker Chick a Vase that explores the Harley Davidson Biker Culture.
