Bent Wood Bracelets and Bangles

Bent Wood Bracelets and Bangles

These Bent Wood Bracelets and Bangles feature techniques that allow for bending, twisting and coiling wood without it snapping.  This process opens many doors to create unusual jewelry and sculptural forms.  Once I form the shape I spend hours hand sanding the wooden bangle.  When I am happy with the feel I make a decision to add a stain color or to leave the wood its natural color.  Then the wood bracelet gets a hand rubbed protective finish. The wood bangle is tough and flexible at the same time. It will last for years and can be worn  every day without fear of damaging. All bracelets have my signature on the inside.

The average inside diameter of a bangle is 2 1/4 inches.  Other common sizes are 2 3/8 and 2 1/2. The wood is 1/4 inch thick wood on most of my bangles.  If you want to determine the best size for your wrist measure the inside diameter of a bracelet that fits you comfortably in your jewelry box.  The alternative is make a paperboard sleeve that slides slide over your hand and then measure the inside diameter of the sleeve.

I began to make wood jewelry in 2010.  Bending wood is a new direction.  I am certain this will generate many ideas and the exploration path will continue to expand.

Studio

I design all of the items in my studio in Montvale, NJ USA.  My primary tool is the wood lathe, but I do spend a lot of time on each item performing secondary operations to enhance the piece.
